Construction and infrastructure projects in Bhutan: 2027 outlook

Planning outlook prepared on 22 October 2026. The clearest starting point for 2027 is Bhutan’s existing multi-year infrastructure pipeline. The milestones to watch are updated work packages, procurement outcomes and mobilisation schedules.

1. Follow the next airport work packages
BBS’s April 2026 airport report described airfield infrastructure and terminal preparation as subsequent stages after earthworks. For 2027 planning, watch for updated employer announcements and package-specific procurement. Their timing will depend on the airport’s updated implementation programme. Airport development report.
2. Track Dorjilung’s implementation milestones
The 1,125 MW Dorjilung project reached a financing-agreement milestone in May 2026. For contractors and equipment owners, the relevant 2027 signals will be published procurement, access arrangements and the mobilisation requirements of individual packages. Use project-specific announcements to establish when each work package becomes relevant. Dorjilung financing announcement.
3. Monitor the continuing Khorlochhu programme
CDCL’s KC-3B package record gives a project period extending to July 2029. That makes its progress relevant to a 2027 watchlist, although the record does not specify the volume or timing of work to be executed during that calendar year. KC-3B project information.
4. Watch the Gelephu–Tareythang procurement pipeline
The road-and-bridges scheme was presented to contractors in 2026, followed by a revised prequalification notice listed by MoIT in October. In 2027, check the official record for procurement outcomes, approved scope and mobilisation dates. Procurement outcomes will determine when contractors can translate that pipeline into firm work programmes. MoIT project overview · Procurement reference.
Prepare around contracts, not headlines
Confirm your awarded work quantities and site conditions before committing machinery. Allow for transport, fuel, operator availability, preventive maintenance and wear parts. The World Bank’s April 2026 outlook identifies project delays and fuel-price pressures among the risks to Bhutan’s outlook, reinforcing the value of flexible mobilisation plans. The projects above may create demand across several equipment categories, but the timing and scale remain dependent on implementation. Catalogue examples below are general planning references, not confirmation of project supply.
