Where Cummins fits into everyday construction

Where Cummins fits into everyday construction

On a construction site, Cummins can be working behind the scenes: inside a machine, beside the site office or in the equipment that keeps the job moving. Understanding these roles makes it easier to ask for the right engine, generator or service part.

1. Moving earth and preparing roads

Cummins supplies engines used by equipment manufacturers in earthmoving, road-building and lifting machinery. Applications include excavators, loaders, motor graders and cranes. The machine carries its manufacturer's name; the engine inside may be Cummins. Fitment depends on the exact model and configuration, so check the engine identification plate rather than assuming every machine from a brand uses the same engine.

Everyday example: a grader shapes a road surface while its engine supplies the power the machine needs to travel and work. When discussing servicing or replacement, the machine model and engine serial number are the useful starting points.

2. Electricity for the working site

A generator set turns engine power into electricity. For a construction project, possible loads include site-office equipment, lighting and suitable electric tools or pumps. These are examples for planning, not a recommendation that one generator can run every load together. Cummins India's CPCB IV+ range includes several generator sizes, including models in the Yoebar catalogue.

Everyday example: before a permanent electricity connection is ready, the contractor lists the equipment that must operate and asks for a generator matched to that demand. Where grid power is available, a separately designed standby arrangement may support selected loads during an interruption.

3. Supporting pumps and compressors

Some construction equipment uses an engine to drive a pump or compressor directly. This differs from connecting an electric pump to a generator. For dewatering, compressed air or similar duties, identify which arrangement the equipment uses before choosing an engine or a power supply.

4. Keeping equipment working day after day

Filters, lubricants, coolant and replacement parts also form part of the Cummins conversation. Match service items to the engine serial number, operating manual and maintenance schedule. A part that looks similar is not enough to establish compatibility.

5. Fleetguard filters across equipment brands

Fleetguard filtration extends beyond Cummins engines. Fleetguard is an Atmus brand, with products for mixed fleets as well as Cummins-powered equipment. That matters when a contractor operates several machinery brands on the same project.

Which manufacturers are covered?

Atmus's 2024 annual report identifies Cummins, Deere, Doosan, Komatsu and Volvo among its established equipment and engine manufacturer customers. It reports both original-equipment and aftermarket business. This is company-level evidence, not confirmation of the filter fitted to a particular machine. Source: Atmus annual report.

For brands outside the Yoebar machinery range, Fleetguard's own catalogue gives practical examples. Its FF5087 fuel-filter application list includes:

  • Caterpillar: 307 JA with a 3046 engine.
  • Komatsu: PC40MR-2 with a 4D88E engine, listed for 2005.
  • Hitachi: ZX27U-3.
  • Hyundai: HSL810 with a 4TNE88 engine.

These are selected replacement-filter catalogue applications, not a claim that these manufacturers factory-fit FF5087 to every model. The list includes older equipment, and a model name alone is not an installation approval. Check Fleetguard's FF5087 application list.

Fleetguard also specifically presents hydraulic filtration for Caterpillar and Komatsu equipment. Fuel, oil, air and hydraulic filters perform different jobs; they are not interchangeable.

How this helps on an everyday construction site

A mixed fleet may include a Cummins-powered grader alongside another manufacturer's excavator or loader. Ask Yoebar to check the filter requirements for each machine. Send the machine model and serial number, engine model and serial number, the existing filter part number and clear photographs of its markings. We can then check the application and cross-reference before confirming the appropriate product and availability.

What to tell Yoebar

  • For an engine or parts: machine make and model, engine model, serial number, hours and the required part or symptom.
  • For a generator: a load list, motor starting requirements, expected daily running hours and the site's location and altitude.
  • For either: explain the work, access constraints and service needs so the configuration can be checked.
